Education and programs at the Oxford County Archives

The Oxford County Archives aims to interpret and make accessible the rich cultural heritage of Oxford County through our public and educational programs including presentations, exhibits and school programs. All of our programs highlight our collection of archival records including both primary and secondary sources relating to the cultural, economic, political, and social history of the County. It is our goal to better connect the Oxford County community through our shared history.

School programs

The Oxford County Archives offers a variety of educational programs both onsite at the archives and offsite at local schools. All of our programs have been developed to fulfill specific subject requirements in the Ontario school curriculum. Our educational programs are intended to encourage students to make meaningful connections between the subject matter they are learning about in school and our community’s history. School tours of the archives are also available, or our staff can be booked for an Ask an Archivist session in the classroom; virtual options are available for both tours and Ask an Archivist sessions. Have an idea for a lesson plan or program that you would like your students to take part in? Contact us and we can work on developing a program to suit your teaching style and students' needs. See the “teachers section ” for more information.

Presentations

Are you a part of a local community organization or cultural/heritage institution that you think would benefit from learning more about the archives and/or the history of Oxford County? If you are interested in booking a presentation or seminar with one of our archives staff please contact the Oxford County Archives.

The Oxford County Archives is currently offering a “Memories from the Vault” program at long-term care centres and retirement residences throughout the County. “Memories from the Vault” is an informal educational program presented in a “show and tell” format that promotes continuous learning and social engagement through the sharing of historical records, stories and memories from the past.
