Ernest George Newman (1877-1952)

Ernest George Newman came through Barnardo’s to the Toronto distributing home. He sailed on the Labrador and arrived in Quebec on August 19, 1893.

Ernest's name appears as the 21st passenger on the Canada, Incoming Passenger List and the 48th passenger on the UK and Ireland, Outward Passenger List.

One of his first placements was with Mr. David Jefferson (1848-1916) of Guysboro (near Straffordville). George, as he was known in Canada, married Mary Ann Ullman (1878-1973) on September 20, 1901. They had two children: Bert and Phyllis.

George worked for the Public Utilities Commission in Tillsonburg for 32 years. When he retired, he was the substation operator. George died in 1952 and is buried in the Tillsonburg Cemetery.
