Harold Victor Rouse (1908-1970)
Harold came through Barnardo’s to Toronto, Ontario. He sailed on the Melita and arrived in Quebec on April 7, 1923. He was originally placed in Halton but then he moved a few times in Oxford and ended up in Courtland, Ontario.
Harold entered Canada through Saint Johns, New Brunswick in 1923. On his Declaration of Passenger to Canada form, he states that his trip from South Hampton, England to Canda was sponsored by Dr. Barnardo. His name can also be found on the UK and Ireland Outward Passenger List, he is the 36th name of the list. He was fourteen when he arrived.
He married Nancy Emily Bunker (1900-1967) in Tillsonburg in 1928. He was noted as a railroad laborer on his wedding registration. He died in 1970 and is buried in the Tillsonburg Cemetery.
Here is the 1931 Census. Harold is noted as living with his wife Nancy Emily Rouse and their one-year-old daughter, Muriel Rouse. The family lived in Middleton Township, Norfolk County at the time.
