Harold Walter Claringbold (1899-1987)
Harold Claringbold came through Barnardo’s to the Toronto distributing home. He sailed on the Kensington and arrived in Quebec on July 20, 1907. Harold’s placement was with James Sinclair of Middleton Township.
Harold's name appears on the UK and Ireland Outward Passenger List. He left England on July 7th, 1907. Furthermore, you can find his name on the Incoming Passenger List once his arrives in Canda. Harold along with a long list of other boys are all listed as being "Dr. Barnardos Boys."
In the 1911 census, Harold is still living with Jame Sinclair and his family in Middleton Township, Norfolk County. He is listed as a Boarder.
Harold enlisted in Simcoe in 1916 to fight in World War One. He married Aletha Marjorie Heath (1909-1993) on September 2, 1929, in Tillsonburg. He was active in the Tillsonburg community and was a volunteer firefighter. He worked at the funeral home, and his profession was listed as funeral director on his marriage registration.
Harold and Aletha had three children: Bob, Jean and Lois. He is one of the British Home Children buried in the Tillsonburg Cemetery.
