1882: M.S. Smith

  

M.S. Smith, Tillsonburg

Born around 1844, in Norwich Township, Matthew Scott Smith operated a furrier business on Bidwell Street East, Tillsonburg in the 1860s. A decade later he was operating a dry goods store with George Fletcher Scott, which would later expand to include boots, shoes, hats, caps, and fur products. He served as Reeve for the Town of Tillsonburg from 1877-1882 and was elected County Warden in his final year on Council. 

M.S. Smith passed away on February 1, 1885 in Brantford, Ontario and is buried in Greenwood Cemetery.
