1888: T.R. Mayberry
T.R. Mayberry, West Oxford
The son of Richard and Matilda (nee Sibbald), Thomas Richard Mayberry was born in Salford, Dereham Township on March 16, 1854. He served as Deputy Reeve from 1883-1885 and Reeve from 1886-1889 for the Township of West Oxford. In 1888, he was elected Warden for the County of Oxford.
He also served as Clerk of West Oxford Township from 1903-1908; was secretary and manager for the Dereham and West Oxford Mutual Fire Insurance Company; and was chair of the Ingersoll Board of Education.
In 1907, he defeated Donald Sutherland to win a seat in the Ontario assembly, where he represented Oxford South until 1914.
During World War I, he served as a lieutenant-colonel, command the 24th Grey’s Horse Regiment.
T.R. Mayberry passed away on March 10, 1934, at the age of 79.
