1898: M.T. Buchanan
M.T. Buchanan, Ingersoll, North Oxford, West Oxford
Born in 1852 in Mosley, Middlesex County, Michael T. Buchanan was a well-known local businessman and politician. At the age of twenty-four he invented the famous Buchanan Hay Fork and around 1882, settled in Ingersoll where he began to manufacture his haying tools.
First elected to Ingersoll Town Council in 1885, he served as Mayor six times. He served as 1st Deputy Reeve for the Town of Ingersoll in 1886, 2nd Deputy Reeve in 1893 and Reeve in 1896 and 1907. He served as a County Councillor for Division No. 2 Ingersoll, North Oxford and West Oxford from 1897-1906 and was elected County Warden in 1898.
In 1916, he retired due to ill health and passed away on November 14th of that year. He is buried in the Ingersoll Rural Cemetery.
