1921: J.R. Johnson
J.R. Johnson, South Norwich
Born on August 6, 1859, John R. Johnson lived in Springford, Ontario, where he worked as a prominent tobacco farmer. He served as a Reeve for South Norwich Township from 1919-1921 and was elected County Warden in 1921.
He was Director and President of the Otter Mutual Fire Insurance Co. for nearly 50 years and 1st President of the Southern Ontario Flue-Cured Tobacco Growers Co-operative Association Limited; filling this office in 1933. He also served as Director of the Western Farmers’ Wind and Weather Insurance Company and was a member of the Norwich- Otterville Lions.
He passed away on January 3, 1946 and is buried in the Springford Cemetery.
