1931: Harry Scott
Harry Scott, North Norwich
Born in Hatchley, Ontario, Harry Heywood Scott was a resident of North Norwich Township for most of his life. In 1919, he purchased James Wylie farm where he lived until around 1945.
He first served as a Councillor for North Norwich in 1926. In 1930-1931 he served as Township Reeve and in 1931, he was elected County Warden. The following year, he retired from municipal politics and shortly afterward was appointed Township Assessor.
He served as president of the Ontario Concentrated Milk Producers and served as a member of the executive of the Canadian Milk Producers. In 1934, he accepted the candidacy of the C.C.F. party in dominion politics. In the subsequent election, he submitted his name as a candidate for the Progressive Conservative Party where he lost out to M.P. K.S. Daniels by a few votes.
He served as the first president of the Norwich-Otterville Lions Club, served a director and president of the North Norwich Agricultural Society, and for many years served as an executive of the Otter Mutual Fire Insurance Company.
Harry Scott passed away on August 24, 1947 and is buried in the Norwich Village Cemetery.
