1935: George Balkwill
George Balkwill, Blenheim
Born on the 7th Concession of Blenheim Township of February 2, 1885, George W. Balkwill operated a store in the Village of Wolverton from 1906-1920 before moving back to the family homestead.
He was first elected to Township Council in 1929. He served as Deputy Reeve from 1931-1933 and Reeve from 1934-1935. In 1935, he was elected Warden of the County of Oxford.
George Balkwill served as Tax Collector for Blenheim Township for twenty-five years until his retirement at the age of seventy-five. He passed away on February 12, 1983 and is buried in the Wolverton Cemetery.
