1940: Hugh Harris

  

Hugh Harris, East Nissouri

Son of Philip and Jane Ann (Thompson), Hugh G. Harris was born in 1889 in East Nissouri Township, where he farmed and conducted a fuel and seed business.

He served as Deputy Reeve for East Nissouri from 1937-1938 and Reeve from 1939-1940. In 1940, he was elected County Warden.

He served as a member of the East Nissouri Township School Board and was an active member of the Oxford Children’s Aid Society, serving, at one point, as Director and Honorary Director. He was also a member and Past Master of the Doric Masonic Lodge, St. Marys and the Royal Arch Masons Chapter, St. Marys.

Hugh Harris passed away on September 29, 1957 and is buried in Christ Church Anglican Cemetery, Lakeside.
