1942: Alvin McKay
Alvin McKay, West Zorra
John Alvin McKay was born on the family farm on Lot 5, Concession 13, East Nissouri Township on November 21, 1895. Following in his family’s profession, he farmed on Lot 5, Concession 4, West Zorra Township. In 1918, he joined the Canadian army and was sent to England where he served with the 4th Reserve Battalion.
He served as a member of the West Zorra Township Council, being elected Reeve from 1940-1942. In 1942, he was elected County Warden.
He was a Secretary and Past President of the Zorra Caledonia Society and served as an elder of Knox Presbyterian Church in Embro. He was also a Past Noble Grant of the Thamesford Lodge, I.O.O.F., and was a member of Branch No. 318 of the Royal Canadian Legion.
Alvin McKay passed away in 1964 and is buried in the North Embro Cemetery.
