1958: J. Grant Smith

  

J. Grant Smith, North Norwich

Born in 1917, J. Grant Smith was a dairy farmer on a 150-acre farm near Burgessville, Ontario (Clearcreek Farms). He also worked as a classifier, judge, and breeder of Holstein cattle. He served on the Ontario Milk Marketing Board, the Dairy Farmers of Canada and the International Federation of Agricultural Producers, and was a member of the Ontario Agriculture Hall of Fame. 

He served as Chairman of the Soil and Water Board of the Big Creek Authority and later the Long Point Region Conservation Authority. He also, served as Chairman of the Norwich Arena Board, was an executive member and one time Chairman of the Norwich Fair Board, and was Vice President of the Oxford Holsteins Breeders’ Association. 

Reeve of North Norwich Township from 1957-1958, he was elected Warden in January 1958, on the 20th ballot.

J. Grant Smith passed away on September 27, 2010 and is buried in the Burgessville Baptist Cemetery.
