1967: J. Vernon Cuthbert
J. Vernon Cuthbert, West Oxford
J. Vernon Cuthbert was born in West Oxford Township, in 1922, and was the owner and operator of a 180 acre dairy farm on RR4 Ingersoll. Following in the footsteps of his father, Wesley Cuthbert, who was Reeve of West Oxford during the late 1930s and early 1940s, he began his own Municipal career in 1956 serving on the West Oxford Township Council. From 1963-1965 he served as Deputy Reeve and then as Reeve from 1966-1967.
On January 17, 1967 he was elected Warden on the 6th ballot. During his term, he was involved in the inauguration of the County-wide Ambulance Service, as well as the official sod turning at the site of the first Woodingford Lodge. That same year, he won a trophy at the International Plowing Match held in Barrie. Over the years, he served as President of the Guernsey Cattle Club for Oxford, Brant and Norfolk; President of the Beachville Concentrated Milk Producers Association and the Oxford County Hog Producers Association.
J. Vernon Cuthbert passed away in 1999 and is buried in the Harris Street Cemetery, Ingersoll.
